Barry Allen, Head of Foreign Languages (Escola IPSI), Montserrat Gavaldà Sampere (Escola Puigcerver) i ESO 2 English teachers & students
At the beginning of March, we began on our journey to tell stories in a chain with our sister school in the Vincula group from Reus, Escola Puigcerver. We worked with Montserrat who has four ESO 2 groups and these paired up with our groups in IPSI.
We began two of the stories and Puigcerver the other two. Then we exchanged what we had done to continue with the story. The idea was to get the imagination and creative juices flowing and all in English!
Here is the link to the four stories 4 CHAIN STORIES WITH FAVOURITE ENDINGS and one is printed below. Happy reading everyone! Enjoy!
As with all new projects there were many questions and doubts and also concerns about how things would go, but in the end everything went quite smoothly and the experience has been very positive. It’s been great to connect and reach out to Puigcerver, working with the students there and getting the students to really apply what they know and take part in this creative writing story in a chain.
Initially students were asked to think about themes and areas of interest to work into the story and we had some pre-agreed vocabulary to include as well. Brainstorming sessions in smaller groups then led to wider discussions on how to proceed and the stories began to emerge.
CHAIN STORY 1
Peggie is a non-binary robot, who lives in a small town in the south of England. The town was founded by a famous cellist who wanted to create a new community based on respect, music and sports. Peggie is a famous detective that has a special case: all robots are blue because they have no emotions, they need to investigate to help the robots get back their emotions. Dani is a robot deer with four enormous blue horns that is Peggie’s assistant.
One day Peggie and Dani were having a walk and they found an abandoned music school. They entered the building and on the left they saw an empty classroom. The classroom was silent, dark and cold, except for the noise of a far away cello. Suddenly, Dani didn’t feel well and went insane. The deer started jumping, running and biting the air. Peggie was confused and frightened. They tried to calm Dani by hugging him but he infected them with a simple touch of their bodies. So both were out of control. Mad.
Then Peggie and Dani went to the basement, and found a giant atomic bomb. Because of all the madness they activated the bomb, so it exploded. All England disappeared, all the green toxic gas expanded to Europe. The baguettes of France began to get rotten. The paellas of Spain started to smell bad. The Pisa Tower of Italy became straight. Europe was holocaust. Everyone was dying. Everyone was suffering. Everyone was disappearing. The next destination of the gas was Asia, but the Asian people wouldn’t let the gas in easily, so they started to dance the dance of the rain, until the rain fell over Asia and the toxic gas lost its power over Asia.
What continent is the gas going to invade now?
