Music in the school

IPSI considers that music, dealt with correctly, educates sensitivity, promotes self-improvement and encourages the student to strive, in order to advance and improve their level.

Under these premises, the school has developed a program that divides musical education into five different and complementary stages.

Initiation 1

Child education

They work with hearing discrimination, psychomotricity and singing little songs and dances suitable for the student’s age.

Initiation 2

Primary education:

Initial grades. Students work on musical reading, audition, percussion instruments and choir singing with appropriate material for their ages.

String instruments, musical reading and choir singing

Primary education: Middle grades.

Students, distributed in small groups, work all together with string instruments (violin, viola, cello and double bass), at the same time they work on a ‘cantata’, played along with instruments, and they deal with choir singing and musical reading.

Keyboard initiation

Primary education: Upper grades.

By learning how to play the keyboard, the students are introduced to instrumental practice. The main goals are:

Individual musical practice: Each students must play three different pieces to be able to pass every term. The young learner must work with two different clefs (Treble and Bass) and has to learn and deal with a new working method.

Perseverance: learning how to play a musical instruments requires a lot of perseverance. Meanwhile, this is a coordination activity, as a consequence, a lot of muscular practise is needed and is based on repetition.

Surpassing yourself: frequently, difficulties can make things complicated but students must work on it and overcome these difficulties, correct mistakes and try again from the beginning.

Composition, keyboard and organology

Secondary school

The first year of secondary school is divided into three groups:
. Keyboard: different pieces are worked, chosen depending on the student’s level.
. Basic organology: introduction to the basic knowledge of instruments and their elementary technics.
. Simple melody composition: initiation to composition with basic chords and a Pop song structure.
