Description Btx1

Description Btx1 Description Btx1

In the first year of Batxillerat, we start with *C1 English, practising speaking and listening, reading and writing & grammar and vocabulary. The focus is on communication, working together, respecting each other and really being able to express feelings, thoughts and opinions in English. Students work individually, in pairs or in groups to present their work which could be articles, reviews, presentations or debates. When possible, students visiting Barcelona from places such as Denmark, Germany and Greece come into school to meet our students and participate in communicative activities in English.
+ Students also read an unadapted novel in English e.g. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Marc Haddon.

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) C1 level corresponds to proficient users of the language, i.e. those able to perform complex tasks related to work and study.

Skills at level C1

You can understand a wide range of more demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning in them.
You can express yourself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for the right expression.
You can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. You can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing correct use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
Here are some examples of specific content:

Vocabulary: personality, work, abstract nouns, lexical areas, phrases with get, conflict and war, books & films, sounds and the human voice

Grammar: discourse markers, the past and unreal uses, adding emphasis through inversion, speculation and deduction, distancing

Pronunciation:  identifying attitudes, linking, silent consonants, stress
